Boxing Day – A Day of Giving & After X-Mas Sales!

So, what exactly is Boxing Day??  The exact origin of this “Day of Giving” is unknown.  Some believe it began during the Middle Ages.  Others say that it originated in the Roman/early Christian era.  Regardless, Boxing Day was a time to give to those in need and it is a HUGE holiday in places like Canada.

Here’s how Boxing Day would work:

Tradesmen would collect “Christmas boxes” of money or presents on the day after Christmas as a way of saying “Thank You” for good service throughout the year.  Also, wealthy landowners would reward their servants for making their Christmas perfect by allowing the “Help” to take the day after Christmas off to visit their families.  Employers would give each servant a box containing gifts & bonuses & sometimes leftover food.

What is Boxing Day now?
